Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School was founded in 1975 in Cass Lake, Minnesota as an alternative school to serve Ojibwe students from Leech Lake Reservation. They fielded there first varsity team in 2015.

| Minnnesota Academy for the Deaf's program began in 2004. MSAD belongs in the Great Plains School for the Deaf (GPSD) conference for football. The GPSD conference was started in the fall of 1989 and contains other state schools for the Deaf from around the region.
