Roseville Area High School was founded after the 1986 merger of Alexander Ramsey High School and Frank B. Kellogg High School. The merger took place due to declining enrollment at both schools. The football program began in the fall of 1987.
The Stillwater Football Program played its first game in 1895. Early Stillwater football seasons consisted of games against other high schools but included games against "The Alumni", "The Old Timers", "Prison City Team", and "U of MN Freshmen" as well. Area high school opponents included teams from St. Paul and Minneapolis, river cities of Western Wisconsin, and Hastings. From 1902-1908 the school played only a couple of times as football became an amateur sport in the community instead of a high school team bearing the Stillwater name. Since 1909, the football team has played a regular high school schedule with the exception of 1918 when the school was closed for much of October and November due to Spanish Influenza. They first began wearing helmets in 1921.
A big thanks to Coach LaBore for all of his research and information on Stillwater's helmets.
